Getting Closer to Batman

How many bats does it take to become Batman?  This is the question the question of the week in my house.  It is kind of like the question of how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop.

Last year there was a bat in the house while I was at work. It is easy to think what I would have done at the time, but it is hard to really know what I would truly do.  A year later from the last bat incident, we were revisited by the brown bat.

Dib was no help with the bat and Iggins hid under a bed.

It started simple enough. I was puttering around the guest room talking to Laura on the phone when I noticed something at the window.  I didn't have my glasses on, and it was a dusky twilight in the room, so I couldn't immediately identify what was going on.  Less then a minute later, it became clear as a bat flew out of the window and at my general direction.

Oh, did I scream.  Down the stairs I thundered, hollering about a bat as the winged menace followed me.  My husband was less than thrilled about the nocturnal nightmare fuel that now inhabited the kitchen. My husband and father in law collaborated in the bat removal.  I did my part and screamed every time it flapped around and laughed maniacally when not screaming. The bat was released back into the night air. The whole event was kind of like the thrill of a roller coaster, you don't really know what the next turn is going to be, but that rush of adrenaline makes your giddy with anticipation and makes you silly.

In a moment of silliness, it made me contemplate if I am one step closer to becoming Batman. There is some serious bat trauma that has to happen before Bruce Wayne lost his parents that helped shape him.  I have had some not so serious bat trauma. How many bats does it take to become Batman?

Two Moods

While I was out in Texas visiting some dear friends, I picked up a mood ring in one of the museum gift shops. I know that mood rings are not a true indication of a persons emotional state, but nevertheless they amuse me. There is always a list on how the colors of the ring correlate to certain emotions. I can never seem to remember what color means what is; so by the power of the internet I looked it up. That is when I discovered my lack of feelings.
According to BestMoodRings.com, I only have two moods. I might not be the most melodramatic, but I was pretty sure I had more moods than two.  Does sleeping count as a mood? It is seems that if the ring turns yellow or orange, I am feeling unsettled and if it turns a deep blue, I am romantic.

That theory is a little confusing since it was deep blue at Torchy's Tacos and yellow every time I took a sip of my soda.
Or is that just a testimony to how much I love tacos and my deep distrust of fountain drinks?  I am not sure if what I feel for tacos is considered romantic, but it certainly does satisfy.  I am just going to go with it.  I think my husband will understand, especially if I give him a taco.

Not related weird thought.  How would chameleons and mood rings work together.  What color would the chameleon be?

The Adventures of Momo!

The Adventures of Momo!

My husband had pre-ordered a teaser of The Adventures of Momo and I fell head over heals in love.  It is a wonderful just because gift.  I love Momo.  My cats are not loving me loving Momo, because I keep asking them if they are a wizard cat.  I think only one of them is a wizard cat, but figuring out which one is the hard part.

The Adventures of Momo is a comic hand drawn by Scott Wygmans. (If you don't know who Scott Wygmans is, try DarkWizard Berserker.) Momo is a wizard cat  and he is on a quest.  I love the art style and humor of Momo.  It is fun and spirited and totally embraces what I think a cat wizard would be.

If you love cats, comics and wizards, then this is definitively something to check out.

Spawning Gift

In the search for awesome patches for my husbands battle jacket , we have run across a wide variety of patches.   I could easily go broke trying to buy everything that caught my eye. Not every single cool patch out there is destined for his jacket, but some of them are just too unique to pass up.  I have found that Etsy has become a dangerous thing for me to explore.  The important thing when looking at patches is to have a purpose for it.  A patch does no good sitting in a drawer.
The influx of cool patches out  there and the rapidly decreasing room on the battle jacket inspired me for my friend Lizzy's celebration of spawning gift.   (I am talking about baby shower.) I prefer to gift something homemade or heartfelt that has a unique blend of personality and usefulness.  You can not clothe a boy child in patches, but you can put cool patches on his clothes, which is almost the same thing.
Armed with golden advice that children grow, and it is okay to gift something they won't need right away, I pillaged a local clothier for plain polos for mini humans.  I was in luck as there was a holiday sale, and purchased several basic colors. I then proceeded to search for the best patches that would reflect personality and humor of the recipient. The one thing you want to keep in mind with any patch project is the size of the patch versus the size of the object it is going on. There were several patches that I loved that were simply too big and had to be filed away for a future project. Deciding on which patch to get was the hardest part.

I highly recommend this gift idea.  It is relatively simple if you know how to use and iron and sew, and also completely customizable to the intended party.  Just remember that Etsy is a dangerous place, and it is easy to find really unique patches.
