Deciphering Dreams

I thought I would share something out of my dream journal.  If you are into deciphering dream, I would be interested in your interpretation.

Niece

Dream

I had the most terrifying dream. I was teaching my Niece how to drive. We were rounding a corner and instead of easing on to the break and turning she hit the accelerator and went straight in her panic. We drove into a house via double doors and them up the stairs. The nose of the car touched the master bedroom door. We eased the car to the street and the placed the doors against the frame. Then spent time looking for paper to leave a note/ apology. The owners came home and were so happy that we were fine and had meant to replace the doors anyway. The owners name was Debra. My Niece was very sheepish over the whole thing. Like this isnt the first time she has driven a vehicle into a house. I am pretty sure I was more upset than either of them.

Grandpa's Cheese Barn

When you say the Grandpa's Cheese Barn, you are either mentally conjuring up a dilapidated old red barn that might be missing a few boards, with a couple of cow roaming around outside and looking a little sketchy or you are thinking about one of the hidden gems of Ohio.
Not Sketchy and Not a Red Barn!

Grandpa's Cheese Barn is like someone read my diary and discovered the way to my heart was through tourist attractions, cheese products and fart jokes. Grandpa's Cheese Barn in Ashland, Ohio covers all three.  Their mascot might be my new favorite mouse mascot.   The facility is neat and orderly and full of humor and food.  There was a little something for everyone there, even if cheese isn't your thing. (I am not judging, we have some dairy intolerant individuals in my family.)

Colby! Perfect mascot name!
There were samples of  most items, which is extremely effective in convincing a person to try something, and the prices were modest. My husband totally decided he needed to come home with teriyaki beef jerky after a single sample. One of my favorite sections aside from the cheese, tea, jerky, snack food and chocolates, is the gift shop. I love a good gift shop, and the cheesier the items the better.  Their gift shop has a wide variety of shirts and other sundry items.  The thing that stole the show for me were the post cards.
Some lucky people are getting this postcard from me!
I know that sending physical mail is an archaic form of communication, but I love it.  I love sending mail, I love receiving mail. When a gift shop has post cards, that is one of the first things I check out.  Postcards are a wonderful souvenir to remember where you have been, and often times have a picture on it that is way better then I could have taken.   Grandpa's Cheese Barn did not fail me.  They had their signature joke on their postcard and a postcard with their mousey mascot. It was a double win for me.  I picked up at least half a dozen postcards to send, mixed in with the cheese curds I couldn't live without and tea, jerky, t-shirt and soap that needed to be rescued.  The only thing that I couldn't not find in the gift shop were magnets. They might have been there, but I honestly think I was a bit distracted with amount of excitement I had coursing through me.  Grandpa's Cheese Barn is a dream.  It is one of those places that you thought was made up for television and then realize that this is better than any TV fantasy. T

If you happen to be in Ohio and see and exit for Grandpa's Cheese Barn, I would recommend stopping. The cheesy goodness that oozes out of that place is beyond belief!

Dreams of Work

Last night I had a dream that I was at work.  Dreams like that normally leave me feeling unrested and normally running my tongue across my teeth to make sure they are still in my mouth.(I once read if you dream about teeth, you are anxious) The dream I had last night left me feeling happy when I woke up.

The dream started out sad.  It started out with being notified that my favorite customer from when I worked at the bookstore had passed away.  I haven’t worked at the bookstore for little over half a decade, but I can still remember my favorite customers.

This particular customer liked to come at the end of the night. He had long dark hair, a small smile and walked with a limp and a cane.  He like to come at the end of the night, because it was less crowded and he was less self conscious of his limp and sometimes it would take him all day to get his limbs to work.  I remember him telling me once that he was once in service and things didn’t go well.  He loved music, and when he was in pain and couldn’t go anywhere, he was able to escape into music. If it was slow , we would chat for a bit about music as I applied every coupon he had to the latest additions to his already extensive music collection.

In my dream, my favorite customer had died.  It was sad and I was shocked. I was even more shocked to find out that he had left me an inheritance to the amount of double the value of my home, so that I could pay my house off and still be comfortable. I had no idea.  The solicitor handed me a note and a check.  I opened the note (and listened to it being narrated by the recently deceased,) that stated they had included me in their will, because I had always been nice to them and treated them with respect and kindness and those were rare qualities to find in a person.

I woke up feeling really good about myself. If I could be remembered for anything, I think I would want to be remembered like that. I would want to be remembered as a person that treats other people with respect and kindness.   It doesn’t matter what you do or where you work, it matters how you treat people.

Today when I went to work, I tried to be a little nicer and chat with my coworkers a little more. I want my dream self to be just as nice as my awake self.

Dreams of Sun and Sand

Did you ever have one of those dreams that you can’t forget about? I know that most people don’t remember their dreams at night or don’t even dream.  Every once in a while I can remember fragments of a dream that can leave me scratching my head.  Last week I had a dream and if I close my eyes I can still recall the way parts of it felt.

::insert wavy dream transition sequence here::

The sun was shining in the cerulean sky. Gat and I had beach chairs slung over our pale white shoulders as we ambled to the shoreline. My friends, Maria and Clint were already set up where the breaking waves could tickle their toes. Maria had a twinkle in her eyes ad her curls bounced in the breeze as she offered me a brown bottle beer as we sat our chairs in the sand. Clint smiled like a salt and pepper Cheshire cat and told us to dig our toes in as his eyes crinkled in glee.  Maria winked and plugged her beer with her thumb as a huge wave crashed over us.  I could feel the grit of sand between my toes as I tried to anchor myself as the clear blue and white water swirled above me and tried to sweep me out to sea.

::End dream sequence::

There was a second part to the dream, but that I am going to keep to myself.  The dream of sun and sand is a contrast to the ice and gray of winter that I am currently in. If I close my eyes I can still feel the sand between my toes and the way the water tried to tug and pull me away.  I am sure that if I were to consult a dream dictionary it would have some deep and possibly meaningful opinions on what my subconscious was trying to tell me. I am going to remember the way the sand felt between my toes as a wrap another scarf around me in an attempt to keep warm.

New Motto

Be Kind. The Universe is watching.
That is what my dad told me this morning. He said it came to him in a dream last night. He said that he had some weird dreams last night, and he wasn't sure what he ate before bed, but he woke up with that in his head.   He couldn't really remember much of what went on other than that word of advice. I have to smile, because of all the things that you could wake up with in your mind, that is pretty awesome advice, and for some reason it gives me a little bit of hope for the future.  I think this is going to be my new motto. It certainly can't hurt.

Be Kind.  The Universe is watching.

Second Chance Dreams

A friend of mine posed a question: "If we had a second chance at a dream, what would it be? " Hmmm…A second chance at a dream. Some people would pay big money to get another chance at something.  This question got  me to thinking about all the dreams that I tossed by the way side when I was trying to pick a career as a young and impressionable adult so many years a go.
Dream #1:
I wanted to be an Airline Stewardess. I thought it would be wonderful to travel the world and be exposed to foreign cultures. It would be day in and day out excitement, and would add dimension to my small town up bringing and state of mind. Then suddenly out of know where, a light clicked in my brain. I get motions sickness. And not the, oh well, take a little ginger and you will be fine sort of motion sickness. The sort  of motion sickness that has me trying to find a happy place between despair and nausea with out losing my stomach contents like luggage from a delayed flight.  It doesn’t matter how far I fly, my stomach believes that the entire International Chinese Acrobatic Circus is traveling in its lining. I could only imagine trying to offer some delicious refreshing beverage as I slowly turn green right before the passengers eyes.  It would be a magic trick.  What a fabulous slight of hand that I would have concerning a barf bag and how it got full with everyone watching and no one actually seeing.  I do not want a second chance at this dream.  It would only end in jet lag and stomach acid.
          Dream #2
I wanted to be a Massage Therapist. I thought it would be fulfilling to be able to assist people with rehabilitating after a serious injury. Unfortunately I realized right away that there are some serious perverts out there that would constantly ask for a “Happy Ending” at the end of any sort of therapy session. Message Therapy has a bad rap of having a boudoir back ground, that I don't think my inner adult would be able to cope with. I am pretty sure that my inner smart mouth teenager would have a field day though.   There are only so many way that I could come up ways to describe genitalia (twig& berries, Sausage & Meatballs etc.) and I do not need to be educated in additional euphemisms. I realized that what I really wanted was to be able to help people without having my profession always be the nudge nudge wink wink sort of thing that the juvenile in me would snicker at when the adult me had a drink or two.  I do not want a second chance at this dream. It would only end in bruised egos.
        Dream #3
I wanted to be a Nurse.  I thought that it would be thrilling to be an every day hero that would patch up people and send them on their merry way. I would give lolly pops  to all the cute kids that had inoculation shots.   Inoculation shots made me think about how I act when I have to have any sort of shots.  I am not all that pleasant. I whimper and whine and get really snippy with the nurse. At the end I am miffed that that I am never offered a lolly pop and a cool band aid, because I am adult.  Also not only would I have to do injections, I would would have to draw blood. When I was a child the poor nurse drawing my  blood is morphed in my mind into a blood sucking vampire, a daughter or son of darkness.   I do not want a  second chance at this dream. I do not want to feel like I am a blood sucking vampire  at the end of the day with out any of the perks of being a blood sucking vampire.
          Dream #4
I wanted to be a EMT. I thought that it would be awesome to swoop in and save lives every day. I think that I am supremely awesome under pressure and would be able to handle the every day drama that could have. And then I started to think about all the highway accidents out there.  I would have to see horrible horrible things that would never leave the my brain. Things that have been seen can not become unseen. I would have to keep my sanity knowing which ways a bone can come out of the body and  still keep my sanity. No. I do not think that I would be good under that sort of pressure.  I think that I would be crushed if some one were to die on my shift. I think that I would take every loss way to personally, and if I ever had to work on some one that I knew, it would make it ten times worse.   I do not want a second chance at this dream. It would only end in tears.
         Dream #5
I wanted to be a Mortician.  I have a lack of skills with pain, violence and heart  ache. Logically it would be much simpler if I worked with people that would not be able to argue back. I could have a one sided conversation with them, much like I do with my cats and my day would be cool. Yeah. There are a lot worse things then not arguing back at you.  The dead are probably pretty tame, it is the living you have to watch out for.  The idea of having to talk to some one that is grieving unsettles my stomach. I don't have to try too hard to imagine that I would offend someone by talking, since I don't have the greatest amount of tact. I am sure that a game of Boxers or Briefs would be very much out of place at a funeral.  I do not want a second chance at this dream. I do not want to be buried alive by grieving non-dead.
I guess the moral of the story is that it is okay if dreams don't work out. It sometimes is for the best. It may not seem that way at the time, because a broken dream is nothing to laugh at. In fact it normally causes quite a few tears.  I may not have one of those glamours jobs that I once dreamed about, but that is okay. Not having that glamour has made room for other dreams and helped me realize what is important to me in my life. Even though I  work hard at my career and spend most of my life working at it, it does not mean that has to be my entire life. My life can be what ever I make of it. A broken dream is just a stepping stone to a path less traveled.
